At the end of 2016, the project “LIFE-IP ZENAPA – Zero Emission Nature Protection Areas” was approved within the framework of the EU funding programme for environment, nature conservation and climate policy “LIFE”. The project meets the challenge of bringing energy system transformation into harmony with the various requirements of climate, nature and species protection.

Duration: 2016 – 2024.

Consortium: 16 partners from 8 German federal states and Luxembourg.

Coordinator: Institute for Applied Material Flow Management (IfaS).

Funding: Integrated Project (IP) in the sub-programme “Climate” of the EU funding programme for environment, nature conservation and climate policy “LIFE”.

Budget: EUR 17 million, of which over EUR 8 million is EU funding. The remainder is provided by the project partners and four co-financiers.

Project area: 11 large protected areas and their adjacent regions as well as the model community of Herrstein-Rhaunen (about 10% of the total area of Germany).
